With a focus on sonic spatial perception, psychoacoustics, dynamic systems, and stochastic processes my pieces aim to (re)create, re(interpret) and (re)(imagine) real and virtual spaces through an interdisciplinary approach to sound that puts immersive experiences in a wide context, both conceptually and practically. The interdependence of sound and its carriers, as well as the socio-acoustic conditions of their usage, takes a central point in performances and interventions that address a spectrum of sonic control and lack of thereof.
Sound as material engages with multimodal performance and perception, hereby deliberately creating coexisting soundscapes and feedback loops that blur the lines between sound and space, and spectator and performer. These processes are collaborative and interdisciplinary in nature and include sound synthesis, acoustic instruments, moving images, choreography, neuroscience, data engineering, biochemistry, astrophysics, and quantum mechanics. While taking the viewer as an active agent, my work also welcomes the unpredictable qualities of the material, often emerging in the form of unstable systems and ambiguous sonic gestures. This initial interest advanced into the examination of the listener’s corporeal and emotional experience and its position within aesthetic and scientific discourse.
